“Art Everywhere” is a charitable organization that plans to showcase british art on billboards across UK starting August 10th. Thandie Newton has chosen a painting by Chris Ofili, called “No woman, No cry”. The painting not only represents melancholy and grief but also pays tribute to London teenager Stephen Lawrence who was murdered in 1993 during a racist attack.
“‘Ofili’s iconic work lends power to a critically important issue. That appalling hate crime against Stephen, his family, and all of us; is forever in the public consciousness with No Woman No Cry. It’s a memorial, I wish it could hang in Trafalgar Square. Now it can with Art Everywhere.” – Thandie Newton
